In a foreign city, on a street where you do not know anyone, just stop for a couple of minutes. Record the sounds you hear in your memory. Try to remember these sounds when you get back to your house or hotel. Which sounds do you remember belong to rhythm of street? I remember voices. Sentences established… Yellings. ‘Memmeeetttt it is time for lunch!’
You never saw him, you do not know him, you do not know what kind of support he needs. What would you say if somebody asks you to afford educational expenses for one or several years?
‘He does not have anybody else except me?!’
We grow up in a street that he does not know. He did not know us neither did we. My father supported his grandfather while he was working in university but neither I asked the type of support nor he told. We were just the people of same ground.
The owner of major holdings and banks accepted me. He neither touched my shoulder nor stroked my cheeks. He had a conversation with me just like a peer. He asked my brother and when I went to Mersin last time. He did not even let me talk about scholarship… Nothing was talked about it.
I spent a calm year without working thanks to him. My grades were better. I was going home more frequently. I could sleep at nights.
I stopped… I recognized that I was talking to myself. I looked at my side. Ali’s, as he is called, eyes were blinking. I shut up. I looked at him closer first time. He had a peaceful face. I have never seen a person just as like an angel. A weakness of everybody whom I considered like an angel prevented him/her being an angel. This man had a different soul.
I shared 24 years of my life. I was just in the middle of my previous experiences. I was on the edge of years getting me on this armchair, I was at the half of road. With a diploma in my hand, I was without a father and job. I had all burden of life on my shoulders. He slowly fell asleep…
Some people born with epaulettes, we can never be successful if we try to remove their epaulettes or get into activities to remove their epaulettes face to face or out of their awareness.
I was in front of the same door after one year, I had no job, I experienced the most difficult one that a boy may face with. I had nothing to give him except a diploma. I had to pay this scholarship in any way so he could help another one. I did not tell this issue to anybody because they would build many sentences starting with ‘Does he need it?’ and this would make me feel depressed.
He listened to me this time…
I said, ‘I cannot give anything to you except a diploma. I am graduated. I have a diploma. I need to pay the scholarship in any way you provided to me. I am here to discuss about it!.
He took the phone while smiling. He asked for administrative manager from secretary. He stood up and came towards me. He put his hand on my shoulder…
‘Now it is your turn. You should succeed to join in this family and prove us that the support we provided to you was a right choice…’
Door is knocked, somebody came in. He was a tall person like military officer or retired person…
He said ‘Levent got education with our scholarship. Now he will join our family. Let him participate in all meetings for some time. Especially to the ones about technological investments… Later, we can decide where he may work…’.
I could not even say my name because of excitement. However, he already knew it. I was that child whose mother called at the street where you listened to rhythm, voices. He changed the life of a boy whom he does not know. Now, he is employing him at his workplace…
Hostess was covering a blanket on my seatmate. I was getting asleep. I was the only one except attendants who was still awake. My eyes were getting into dream slowly…
